Welcome to the website for The Journal of African American Children's Literature (JAACL). The Journal of African American Children's Literature is a print base journal. This website provides information about the mission of the journal, links to useful web sites about African American children's literature, spotlights African American authors and illustrators and features book reviews, news and updates on awards. Future links will include chat rooms, teacher and parent links and classroom literacy web pages by children. The logo for JAACL is the Sankofa bird which represents the philosophical belief that we must go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward.
The premier issue of the Journal of African American Children's Literature will honor the work and life of Tom Feelings. Tom Feelings was a pioneer in the field of African American children's literature. His work transcended time and space in that it celebrated the beauty of African peoples throughout the Diaspora. Featured highlights of the premier journal will include scholarly articles, essays, interviews, authors' and illustrators' perspectives.
