Message from Dean Kenneth Teitelbaum

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) website.  Although we are currently in the process of updating this website, there is still much you can find out here about the various departments, schools, centers, programs, etc. that we offer and the faculty and staff who comprise our college.  We also have important information for students and alumni as well as descriptions of recent and future events and activities.

COEHS includes eight departments/schools:  Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration and Higher Education, Educational Psychology and Special Education, Health Education and Recreation, Kinesiology, Rehabilitation Institute, Social Work, and Workforce Education and Development.  Students are prepared to be teachers, school and college/university administrators, athletic trainers, therapeutic recreation specialists, speech pathologists, social workers, school and community counselors, and health educators, to name just some of our majors.  We have 12 nationally accredited academic and professional programs, including our teacher education program which is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.  We have numerous off-campus degree programs, with Workforce Education and Development alone enrolling almost 1,000 students each semester coast to coast, primarily at military bases but with plans to extend our programs to community colleges and labor unions.  Research and service projects span a broad spectrum in our college, involving both faculty and students in all eight academic units and in several centers and institutes that are doing extremely important work.

We are a diverse college, but we join together in our dedication to understanding and improving the lives of children, adolescents and adults – in schools and colleges, social service and physical activity organizations, clinics and hospitals, governmental agencies and businesses, and related settings.  We pursue this goal in the undergraduate and graduate (master’s and doctoral) programs we offer, the courses we teach, the research in which we engage, and the service we provide on and off campus.  The college also addresses this aim in a variety of more informal interactions – with students, faculty and staff colleagues in the college and across campus, and with community members in the region, around the state, across the country, and throughout the world.
