Dear Alumni & Friends

letter

Welcome to the College of Education and Human Services’ web site and the office of development for the college.  It is with great pride I serve this college, its alumni, staff and students as Director of Development, and I look forward to meeting many of you throughout the coming days, months and years.

With 68,000 alumni representing the College of Education and Human Services, this represents almost 1/3 of the 200,000 plus SIU alumni. As we approach the 150th birthday of the University, our college has played a vital role in the development of the university from the very beginning.  From the humble beginnings as a Teachers College to the status of today’s comprehensive research institution, our college has been here from the start. We truly are the flagship college of Southern Illinois University.

As you may be aware, state support for public education throughout the nation is reaching all time low levels.  It is critical for each of us to consider what we should do to support education and the future for our children our grandchildren and beyond.  Education and the human services are the foundation for the next global economy and is the single most important medium to assist in educating all people, solving poverty, improving health care and stabilizing the welfare of generations to come.

We are grateful and truly appreciate all of you who have supported the college and its mission throughout the years. Thanks to your support we have been able to create over 70 endowments that support students and faculty, more than 100 scholarships that impact our students in a positive manner, and our first Endowed Professorship is being funded as we speak.  As well, it is important to know our faculty’s contribution to development by way of grants and projects.  Your faculty each year works tirelessly to secure grant funding from a variety of sources in order to support students, faculty, research, as well as the external community at large.  The best way I know to thank them is continue our private support through our giving.

There is much to do, and we are nowhere near the finish line.  Those of you that know me and my background know I will set the bar high, not be deterred by the win/loss record and ask for you to join the team.  Together, one person and one gift at a time we will succeed in our support of this great college.  I look forward to hearing from anyone - anytime, please call or write.
