The Early Childhood programs are fully accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education and by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. SIUC is one of a minority of university teacher education programs in the country accredited by NCATE, the only nationally recognized accrediting group authorized by the U.S. Department of Education. This national accreditation facilitates certification in many other states. As a whole, SIUC is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

SIUC's Elementary Education program is fully accredited. In addition to its accreditation by the Illinois State Board of Education, SlUC's teacher education program enjoys the distinction of accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the only nationally recognized accrediting group authorized by the U.S. Department of Education.
