A Listing of Approved Majors/Programs leading to Certification

The following programs in Teacher Education have been approved for continued offering at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale as a result of the Illinois State Board of Education and the State Teacher Certification Board Tenth Year Periodic Review of Programs for the Preparation of Educational Personnel at SIUC:

Programs leading to entitlement to the Initial Elementary Certificate (type 03):

• Elementary Education

Programs leading to entitlement to the Initial High School Certificate (type 09):

• Agricultural Education
• Science w/ a designation in Biology
• Business, Marketing and Computer Education
• Elementary Education and Special Education "dual certification"
• English Education
• Family and Consumer Science
• Health Education
• History Education
• Mathematics Education
• Technology Education:
  • Architectural Drafting
  • Automotive Technology
  • Health Careers

Programs leading to entitlement to the Initial Special Certificate (type 10) (approved June 14, 2002):

• Art Education
• English as a New Language
• Foreign Languages:
  • French
  • Spanish
• Music (Instrumental & Vocal)
• Physical Education
• Reading Specialist
• Special Education:- Learning Behavior Specialist I
• Speech Language Pathology

The following entitlement program was approved for continued offering at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Its purpose is to prepare individuals to teach infant/preschool/primary aged children (type 04):

• The Early Childhood Certificate Program

The programs listed below have been approved by the Illinois State Board of Education for offering in the College of Education and Human Services at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Successful completion of the programs listed leads to entitlement to the administrative endorsements identified:

• Level I-General Supervisory (Special Education only)
• Level II-General Administrative
• Level III-Superintendent

The following entitlement programs were approved for continued offering at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale as a result of the Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois State Teacher Certification Board Fifth Year Periodic Review of Programs for the Preparation of Educational Personnel at SIUC:

• The School Service Personnel (Guidance Endorsement) Certificate Program
• The School Service Personnel (School Social Worker) Certificate Program
